Emulsions > applications
Any application requiring the generation of emulsions can be performed using a membrane technique, with the advantages of a lower energy cost and more consistent product. The reproducible and controllable shear fields found in emulsion systems are preferable to the varying shear fields in stirred tanks, or homogenisers. Hence, the product quality is better. These advantages are even greater when using our novel media, as the pores are so uniformly spaced and consistent in size - leading to a more consistent product. Also, we have novel methods of using the media to enhance these advantages and emulsions and dispersion can be generated continuously, resulting in much smaller and more controllable equipment than conventional batch systems. The video shows a 1 kg per hour scale continuous system generating uniform 1 mm size coacervate drops containing a blue dye.
Applications include the production of particles, creams and lotions, emulsified oils, foods, cosmetics, dispersions, cleaning fluids and precursors to many industrial products.
