Particles > equipment

Monosized particles being generated on the outer surface of a Micropore Technologies microfilter tube. All the technology and equipment used to form emulsions can be used to form particles. The particle size is very uniform and controllable, depending on the operating conditions selected. Equipment types include:

  • crossflow over membrane surface,
  • rotation using tubes, and
  • discs and planar surfaces.

Examples of the control that can be obtained over the size are shown in the following video clips, taken using the same equipment under different conditions of shear - giving different sizes:

All files are in Windows wmv format.

After production of the drops, particles are formed by solidification, reaction, polymerisation, etc. The uniform nature of the drops gives rise to uniform particles. These techniques for production, and the equipment used, are easily scalable for both laboratory investigation and manufacture.
