At Micropore we have worked with many clients in the competitive, highly regulated, food industry to overcome some particularly difficult challenges in formulation.
We have particular expertise and successes in the production of low fat foods. Using our patented Micropore Crossflow membrane system (LXF-1) we have maintained the creamy sensory taste requirements and mouthfeel of food, yet achieved the low fat standards required. This is achieved by the incorporation of a low fat internal phase, such as water, being added to a fat based continuous phase, where the fat surrounds the low fat material. The process requires a fine balance and the intelligent application of Micropore's technology.

Micropore equipment is constructed of entirely food grade stainless steel with industry standard hygienic fittings.
Micropore's processes are designed to be scalable - from laboratory formulation testing to production tonnages. This enables meaningful laboratory data to be used to scale a process to production volumes.
The system is easy to control and has a lower factory space requirement than conventional stirred tank technology.
The Micropore patented manufacturing techniques provide uniform droplets and particles with 100% delivery of the desired size range. There is no waste and significantly lower energy and waste disposal costs compared to conventional manufacturing techniques.
Reliability and Reproducibility:
Micropore’s technology enables highly reliable and reproducible production of batches of materials. This is especially important in production environments when pH is adjusted; our techniques lead to no 'bad batches’ to be disposed of.
The Micropore systems are easy to control and do not require time consuming and costly specialist operator training.
Stainless Steel benefits:
The Micropore equipment is constructed entirely of food grade stainless steel with industry standard hygienic fittings. Additional standards of finish are available for pharmaceutical use. The 100% stainless steel equipment can be run at elevated temperatures.
Micropore’s equipment can be fully enclosed to ensure environmental segregation and product isolation.
The low shear and gentle conditions used during membrane emulsification are ideal to prevent damage to delicate and expensive materials.
We have expertise in working with companies seeking to replace some less attractive emulsifying agents, e.g. polyglycerol polyricinoleate (PGPR), with more environmentally desirable ones, that need lower shear, provide greater stability and good control during processing.
